Gangtok, Jan 14 (ANI): With an aim to tap, nourish and promote the talents in performing arts among the youth of Sikkim and project them as the National level, a periodical competitive event "the Sikkim Rockstar," was held in the state.
The state level music and dance talent hunt show 'Sikkim Rock Star' organised by Singbell GPU Construction Cooperative Society Ltd is an all out effort to nurture budding singers and dancers of the state and prompt them to excel in their respective fields.
District-wise preliminary auditions were held at Namchi, Singtam, Gangtok and Pelling to select participants. The three categories in the competition were solo dance, group dance and vocal singing.
Speaking to ANI, Sikkim Rock Star Organiser Sonia Sheikh said: "When we first took audition for Sikkim Rockstar, most of the participants lacked confidence. But I'm surprised that now they have improved much and in the semi-final they have shown their best."
Dancers and singers, 25 each in respective categories reached the semi-final rounds. The semi final comprised of two rounds Rock and Semi Classical. Ultimate winners in each category is awarded a cash prize of Rs.25,000. Besides, they will be given an opportunity to compete at the national level such as Indian Idol and Boogie-Boogie.
For the audition of Indian Idol relevant expenses will be met by the Sikkim Rock Star Committee and the winner in the dance category will get a chance to send their video CD for Boogie-Boogie audition.
"There are many participants like me. They all got a platform to show their talents to all. So, I'm very happy," said Dhiraj a participant.
In the recent past, many talented individuals from the North East like Sourabhee Debbarman, Amit Paul, Prashant Tamang and Debojit had left their marks in the TV reality show Indian Idol.
It is felt that the initiation will help the youngsters to cultivate artistic and creative pursuits. By Tashi Pradhan (ANI)
