Google enters in the mobile world with open source software

Nov 06: Google, World’s leading software giant is going to enter in the mobile market with its open source software ‘Android’ this year. This software will enable mobile phones into powerful mobile computers. Though Google is not introducing its own branded mobile, but its software will open an innovative door for several companies to make their own Gmobile using this software.

Google has officially announced on Monday while introducing ‘Android’ that its tailor made kit would be available for the mobile companies till next week, while the mobile phones with pre-loaded software would be available till the next half part of 2008.

‘Android’ is unique in its feature that makes it different from others. Using this open sources software as an operating platform, the software developing companies can add extra features and make unique software for installing in the mobile phones. This software is quiet capable to utilise in video, audio, social networking and several other extraordinary features.

Google has not open the card of entering in the mobile market with its own branded mobile phone, but it is assuming that using ‘Android’, Google is preparing for trial in the cellular world.

"We don't want to foreclose any options in the future," hinting this estimation to the competitors that Google might be enter in the mobile world with its own branded mobile Eric Schmidt, told reporters that ‘Android’ will open an innovative way for the advertising and service providing companies to promote their product into the mobile phone in which ‘Android’ is running, when the users will away from their PC.

"Let's put the technology enablers in place and figure out how to monetise it later," said Andy Rubin, the official in charge of Google's mobile phone push. "You won't see a completely ad-driven cell phone on this system for some time."

‘Android’ will be available in several companies’ handset include HTC, LG, Motorola and Samsung. Besides this Google has also shaken hands with 34 companies include chip manufacturing companies, telecom service providing companies and mobile software providing companies. This alliance will be known as Open Handset Alliance, OHA.

Some leading companies like Broadcom, Intel, Qualcomm and Texas Instruments (all mobile phone chip makers), as well as SiRF Technology Holdings, Marvell Technology Group, Nvidia and Synaptics. EBay (which owns the Internet calling service Skype), Nuance Communications, NMS Communications and Wind River Systems are in the OHA.

‘Android’ will be available freely under “open source” licensing terms, means handset manufacturers will be able to use it at no cost and be free to add new features to differentiate their products. They can sell this according to their own rules and regulation policies and Google is not in hurry to see the operators revise the way they charge for the service.
