Aurangabad, Nov 16 (ANI): PepsiCo India, the country's leading food and beverage company, on Sunday announced plaus for the construction of 13 check dams and 100 recharge ponds at Wahegaon village in Maharashtra's Aurangabad District.
PepsiCo India will create a recharge potential of over 700 million litres of water, as a result.
"We will build 13 check dams over there. They restrict the flow of water in different places and the water is finally collected in wells connected to them which is used for farming," said Vivek Bharati, Executive Director, PepsiCo.
The project would directly benefit about 12,000 villagers through improved access of water.
These check dams will provide substantial relief to villagers who had to earlier walk long distances to fetch water.
Check dams are small barriers built across shallow rivers and streams. (ANI)
