Bangalore, Oct 12 (ANI): Bangalore Police on Monday arrested two gun runners allegedly behind the Dawood Ibrahim gang in the city.
The action comes days after the arrest of three other Dawood gangsters from Jhankhand and Uttar Pradesh who were involved in gun running as well.
The arrested were identified as Mohammed Ayub (28) of Banashankari area in the city limit, Fairoz (32) and Ansar (22) of Hoskote in Bangalore rural District.
The police have recovered one pistol, three revolvers and 21 rounds of ammunition from the arrested persons.
According to the police the three arrested men set up an arms manufacturing unit in the outskirts and were manufactured guns under the tag USA.
The Home Department feels that the arrests could just be the tip of the iceberg of the underworld menace in Bangalore.
Earlier in September, Bangalore Police busted a gunrunning racket and arrested Hussain Sab from Gadag in Karnataka, Nawab Barkatulla of Bihar and Mohammed Siraj of Jharkhand. The three had taken shelter in a madrassah near Chitradurga in central part of the state and procured arms from Bihar and sold them to various gangs.
They provided arms and ammunition to underworld, including Ravi Pujari gang.
Bangalore City police commissioner, Shankar Bidari then recommended to hand over the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) as city crime branch smelled the involvement of a large inter state network in arms racket. (ANI)
