New Delhi, Oct 11(ANI): The Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, has postponed his two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir, which was to commence on October 18. He is likely to undertake the visit in the last week of October.
The visit will be Singh's first visit to the state during his second tenure. He will inaugurate a 12-km railway line between Anantnag and Qazigund.
The Prime Minister's visit to the state was postponed after Union Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee opted to stay away from the event.
The Anantnag and Qazigund railway line is part of the prestigious Rs. 11,270 crores, Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link project, which will connect the Kashmir Valley to the rest of the country.
Last year, Singh had inaugurated the first ever train service in the Kashmir valley between south and central Kashmir districts of Anantnag and Badgam.
Having a rail link connecting the Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country has been a dream of locals for decades. (ANI)
