Jalpaiguri (WB), Sep 24 (ANI): Forest authorities in West Bengal on Wednesday rescued an elephant calf, which had strayed away from the herd in Baikunthapur forest range.
The calf lost its way along the banks of River Teesta and was rampantly moving on the sand strips when the forest rangers spotted it.
"Wildlife officials from Teesta riverbed rescued it and handed over to our wildlife sanctuary," Narayan Ghosh, Wildlife Warden (North Range), Jaldapara Sanctuary.
The calf was first taken to the Elephant Rescue Centre located at Sukna at the foothills on the road leading to Darjeeling.
However, on account of improper infrastructure, the animal was later shifted to the Elephant Rescue Centre in the Jaldapara Sanctuary.
The elephant calf is fed with milk and tender grass. According to the caretakers, it is doing well. (ANI)
