"Project Arrow" launched to re-vitalise Post Offices

With the aim to re-vitalise post offices and enable it to play a larger role in socio-economic transformation of the country, the Minister for Communication and Information Technology T A Raja launched a new project under the name of “Project Arrow.” The Project is being seen as a vital step to fulfill India Post’s motto – “Dak Seva-Jan Seva”.

The Project has taken into account twin objectives to transform India Posts into a responsive organisation and to instrumentalise the postal operations to benefit the customers.

Under the project, 50 post offices have been identified to go through modernisation in Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, North East, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. By the end of this year, 500 such Post Offices will get operational in the country.

These Post Offices will go through complete make over in terms of look, feel and IT enabled services.

New logo and a new slogan, designing of exteriors and interiors, upgradation of computer hardware and software, improvement in delivery of services and upgradation in connectivity are some of the chief features of this Project.

The post office in rural areas by now will be a single window facility for banking, money remittance, transmission, and delivery of information. It would also cater to the need of the people through implementing National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) and National Old Age Pension Scheme.

Today, about 89 percent of the network of India Post is active in rural areas. Project Arrow will connect these remote areas’ people direct to the outside world.

To monitor the implementation of the Project at all stages with the prescribed timeline, a Steering Committee and a Core Team have been set up in the Ministry of Communication and IT.

Mr. Raja inaugurated Project Arrow in Post Offices at Perambalur and Geetha Mahal in Tamil Nadu. While, the Minister of State for Communication and IT, Jyotiraditya Scindia inaugurated the Project at Murar Head Post Office ( Gwalior), Morena, Shivpuri, Guna and Ashok Nagar in Madhya Pradesh.
