Islamabad, Sep.13 (ANI): In his bid to set an example and to persuade people to consume less sugar as its price continues to sky rocket in the country, Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has ordered his cook to stop making sweet dishes.
"The orders are being implemented from today. He wants to tell the people that they can live healthier by taking less sugar," an official at the Prime Minister House said.
It is worth mentioning here that sugar prices in Pakistan have reached an all time high primarily due to massive hoarding and black marketing.
People have been forced to shell out more money damaging their budget. They have no option other than spending extra money even in the month of Ramazan.
Authorities, however, said there was no shortage of sugar in the country and blamed hoarders for creating an 'artificial crisis', but they failed to mention what action has been taken to counter the issue.
eanwhile, Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira has also urged people to consume less sugar.
"Let's persuade people to consume less sugar and then we will see where these hoarders sell their sugar," The Dawn quoted Kaira, as saying.
It may be noted that the average annual consumption of sugar in Pakistan is 25 kgs (55 pounds) per person, which is much higher than India, China and Bangladesh. (ANI)
