Lohian (Punjab), Aug 17 (ANI): People of Ferozpur district in Punjab are facing a bleak future with the rising river Satluj submerging around 12 villages.
Army has been deployed in relief and rescue operations in the flood affected areas and also helped out in shifting flood victims to safe places.
The administration has assured that very soon the situation would be brought under control and the people relocated to safe places.
"Around 10-12 villages have been affected by floods. The police and the army are all together trying to provide relief to the people. The water level has already come down," said Ajit Singh Pannu, Deputy Commissioner, Jalandhar.
However, the villagers complained that had the administration taken preventive steps on time, this disaster could have been avoided.
"We have suffered a huge loss. All our crops have been destroyed. Around eight to ten villages are submerged under water. For around seven to ten days, we will have to sleep on the roadside," said Mukhtar Singh, a resident.
Heavy monsoon rain in Himachal Pradesh has contributed to the rising water level in rivulets and dams. (ANI)
