Sitapur (Uttar Pradesh), Aug 13 (ANI): A group of considerate rural women in Uttar Pradesh's Sitapur district have set up 'Anaz Bank' (Grain Bank) to provide relief to the needy in distressed times.
Around 11 enterprising women came up with the idea to help fellow members of the society in case of any mishap like illness, fire, low agricultural produce or draught like situation.
"We have started the Anaz (grains) Bank. We collect food grains in the storage tank under this bank. We are 11 women members, part of the bank. Very often we hold meetings and discussions. These stored food grains are given to those who encounter any crisis like flood, sickness, fire etc.," said Kiran, a founder member of Anaz Bank.
These women have earned ample support from other residents in the neighbourhood, while a local self-help group (SHG) guides their community service.
Other villagers have also expressed enthusiasm at attempt by women and have extended their help and contribute in all possible ways.
"We all try and contribute in whatever way we can. We provide grains as per our capability; it can be either 2 kilos, 4 kilos or even 10 kilos. We keep these grains in the storage tank," said Lalji Singh, a local resident.
In case, there is any surplus grain in the bank, the members would sell the surplus grain in the market and would utilise the money for the welfare of the village.
The Anaz Bank has so far managed to store around 40 to 50 quintals of grains. By Kamna Hejela (ANI)
