Ahmedabad, July 15(ANI): The Gujarat government on Wednesday declared that it would soon bring a new law having a provision to punish dealers of spurious liquor with seven years in imprisonment to capital punishment.
The State government has come into action following wide uproar over the death of 152 people in Ahmedabad due to drinking illegally brewed liquor.
Gujarat police have so far arrested 100 people in connection with the incident. The police suspect that there may be more of the spurious liquor being consumed. It hopes to crackdown on the sellers through the bootleggers arrested on Monday.
Vinod Chauhan, the key suspect wanted for the hooch tragedy, has reportedly fled the State. He was allegedly involved in brewing the spurious liquor in Gujarat's Kheda district, which was supplied to different parts of Ahmedabad, said police officials.
Harishankar Kahar and Dadu Charra, who bought over 1,000 litres of the spurious liquor from Chauhan and supplied it to Majoor Gam and Odhav, have also been arrested along with six other bootleggers, who allegedly aided them in distributing the hooch. (ANI)
