May 04: The famous US magazine has selected the 100 most influential people in the world. The personalities are from different fields and have been included in the edition of May 14, 2007. The new edition was released on Friday, May 04, 2007. It has categorised the influential personalities as top “Leaders & Revolutionist�, “Scientist & Thinkers�, “Artist & Entertainers, “Builders & Titans� and “Heroes & Pioneers� along with the category list of their native places.
Three Indians, including two NRIs, are also in the list of powerful men. These are - Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, steel icon Lakshmi Niwas Mittal and PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi. Surprisingly, US President George W Bush is absent from the list while Osama Bin Laden has secured its position. The selection was made employing voting through emails and messaging services.
It is for the fourth time that the world famous journal has come with the list. Pope Benedict XVI, US senators - Hillary Clinton and Barak Obama, the British Queen - Queen Elizabeth, Israeli Foreign Minister - Tzipi Livni, Cuban Leader - Raul Castro, Chinese president - Hu Jintao and Californian Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger are in the list.
In the “Artist and Entertainment� category Hollywood actor Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio, producer-director Martin Scorsese, Hollywood actress Cate Blanchett, pop sensation Justin Timberlake and Senegalese musician Youssou N’Dour along with fashion model Kate Moss also made it to the list.
In “Scientist and Thinkers� category the US vice president David Al Gore was awarded for his environmental campaign. Some other politicians and state heads include Condoleezza Rice, Angela Merkel, the German Chancellor and Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. As revolutionists Nancy Pelosi, the US house of Representative Speaker and Liu Qi, head of the 2008 Beijing Olympics committee got in the list.
