Indian batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar, left-arm seamer Zaheer Khan, off spinner Harbhajan Singh are brought back to the Indian One-Day squad for the five-match series in Sri Lanka starting from August 18.
National selectors though rested paceman Ishant Sharma and middle order batsman Robin Uthappa but gave chance to young and talented Delhi's Virat Kohli. Kohli also carries the credit of U-19 World Cup winning captain.
However, as per BCCI, Ishant Sharma will soon return to the 15-man team for the forthcoming Champions Trophy played in Pakistan from September 11-28. He has been replaced by Munaf Patel on BCCI’s rotation policy.
Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni who was opted out from the ongoing Test series in Sri Lanka will lead the side.
However, fast bowler Shanthakumaran Sreesanth after coming out from a shoulder injury couldn’t impress the selector to make it to any of the tournament.
Sachin Tendulkar and Harbhajan Singh also make their ODI comebacks after being out of the team for different reasons. Both are now a part of the ongoing three-match Test Series against Sri Lanka, evenly balanced with one win each. The third and the final match will start on Friday (Aug 8) at the P Saravanamuttu Stadium.
Indian national selectors on Thursday announced the list of players for both the events as given below.
