May 03: It is yet to come on the Pakistani political arena but friends turned foes turned friends or foes have skeptical about the Bhutto’s deal with Musharraf.
Former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that Pakistani Peoples Party chairperson and former premier Benazir Bhutto should not strike any deal with President Pervez Musharraf because "such a step will not be in the national interest after several years of joint struggle against dictatorship".
Under the Charter of Democracy, no Alliance for Return of Democracy (ARD) party is allowed to hold talks with dictators; Pakistani media quoted Sharif as saying.
ARD is a conglomerate of many political parties of p0akistan who oppose Pervez Musharraf’s dual role as president and army chief. ARD wants return of democracy to Pakistan and Sharif and Bhutto both are its signatories.
The common hatred for army rule in Pakistan brought political rivals and former prime ministers together but differences are creeping between the Pakistani Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the PPP over the issue of Bhutto's reported contacts with Pakistan's federal government for a deal. Bhutto is yet to explain its position to the PML-N.
Sharif lives in London and has showed keen interest in return to the country, which once used to be his domain. He arrived in Dubai from London today and incidentally PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto and ARD chairman Makhdoom Amin Fahim are also in Dubai. If reported statements of ARD and its constituents are to be believed these leaders might not meet each other but nobody is sure as Pakistani politics always follows unexpected path.
