Convicted rapist jumps from court's fourth floor

Lucknow, May 30 (IANS) A man convicted of rape jumped from the fourth floor of a court in this Uttar Pradesh capital Saturday after he was sentenced to seven years imprisonment, police said.

 

'Imam Ali, 38, jumped from the fourth floor on the civil court's premises after which he was rushed to a hospital,' Superintendent of Police (West) Paresh Pandey told IANS on phone.

 

 

'Just a few seconds after the judge pronounced the order, Ali ran towards a window of the court room, from where he jumped off the fourth floor,' he added.

 

 

Ali is undergoing treatment in the Balrampur Hospital, where his condition is stated to be critical, police said.

 

 

Ali had raped the minor daughter of his aunt in 2007, police added.
