Gandhinagar, May 25 (IANS) Two senior retired IPS officers are assisting former CBI director R.K. Raghavan, the chief of the Supreme Court-appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT), in selecting public prosecutors who are to be appointed for the fast track courts which would hear cases of rioting and arson during the 2002 Gujarat riots.

The two retired IPS officers are former Central Bureau of Investigation director Paramveer Singh and former CBI DIG A.K. Malhotra.

SIT chief Raghavan arrived in the state capital Monday morning with the two officers who, sources said, would now also be members of the SIT that is continuing its probe into the possible involvement of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, his cabinet colleagues and senior government officials in the sectarian riots that engulfed Gujarat in 2002.

Raghavan also sought information on the status of the security arrangements made for the riot witnesses as demanded by them.

A review meeting was held in the state capital headed by Raghavan in which the main topic discussed was the early appointment of public prosecutors for the fast track courts, sources added.

Riots engulfed the state in the aftermath of the burning of the S-6 coach of the Sabarmati Express, which killed 59 people at the Godhra Railway station on Feb 27, 2002.
