Sep 26: Heavy rains in the last 48 hours have completely paralysed the life in eastern Indian states Orissa, Bihar and West Bengal. Most coastal regions of Orissa and West Bengal have completely submerged with water making it really worse for the normal life of people.
In Orissa the six coastal districts Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jajpur and Bhadrak are most affected with torrential rains that forced lakhs of people leave their residence as river continues to cross the danger mark.
The state administration have so far arranged all possible relief and rescue operation but it’s difficult for those lakhs of villagers to take shelter in maroon land. As Subarnarekha, Brahmani and Baitarani rivers are running above the danger mark the villages comes under its limits including the district Balasore.
Rescue relief operators along with medical units are in their job to provide all essential food packets, water bottle and medical treatment keeping in mind that any occurrence of cholera can further worsen the situation. The authority doesn’t want to take any chance in this regard as month back over 300 people have died due to the epidemic cholera.
Flood threat in West Bengal
In West Bengal Hooghly, Howrah and West Midnapur districts are on the verge of flood threat and civil authorities are on their effort to take all measures to tackle the situation. The state government has also ordered the district collectors to keep an eye of the water levels of the river and set up relief, rescue and medical units to tackle any mishap.
Heavy rains in the last couple of days have claimed 11 lives as per the official confirmation. So army has also been called to assist the civil administration. However, many places are still not well in reach as the communication facilities including rail, road, telecommunication and electricity is out of operation.
Rain brings down normal life in Bihar
In Bihar people have been facing heavy rains from the last two days and as per the meteorological department heavy shower will continue in the next 24 hours. Some of the schools and colleges are also suspended in the state capital Patna and neighbouring districts.
It is likely that fresh rains in Bihar will further worsen flood situation Bihar. It’s really unfortunate that just in the month of August heavy rains have claimed over hundred lives in the state.
Regular torrential rains in these eastern Indian states have been one of the major obstacles in their growth path by destroying crops and displacing lakhs of people from their home. If rain continues to fall in next couple of days then authorities are in fear to face any another ugly form with the rise of epidemic like malaria and cholera.
